TAKE ACTION! Call the County Board of Commissioners at 790-5267 or e-mail them at boc@saginawcounty.com.

Tell them to put the dioxin-contaminated dredge sediment in a real landfill. Tell them Saginaw County taxpayers should NOT get stuck with responsibility for Dow's contamination.

Background: The Army Corps of Engineers is building an unlined slurry pit , in a flood plain, next to neighborhoods in Zilwaukee and Frankenlust Townships. In September of 2005 the Saginaw County Board of Commissioners took ownership of the property and assumed liability and responsibility forever for the dioxin slurry pit. Commissioners were told this pit would ONLY be used for navigational dredging. EPA documents recently uncovered show that in fact there are plans to use it for Dow's contaminated sediments throughout the region. The County Board was misled.

The taxpayers of Saginaw County should not be held liable for Dow's toxic dioxin contamination. It's just wrong! Highly toxic dioxin waste should be handled carefully and put in a proper landfill.
